Supported Independent Living (SIL)

Supported Independent Living means that we provide you with around the clock staff to assist you to live independently. At Bunya Care, you can share a home  with other participants if that is part of your plan, or we can also provide around the clock staff to help you live independently in a home you have purchased yourself.

Depending on your NDIS package you may have to share with one, two or even three people. We aim to match people up in the same home to make the sharing of the home the best possible experience.

We understand that certain items are special to you, and you want to set up your own home as well. We encourage you to bring your own furniture, so you feel most comfortable in your new space, it is your home after all.

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA)

Bunya Care works with a number of developers of Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) to purpose build properties to meet your specific needs. You need to have SDA funding included in your NDIS plan to be able to live in a SDA. Talk to us if you think your home needs changes for your specific needs. The Bunya Care support coordinator can assist you in applying for SDA funding if we think you qualify.

Community Access- Community participation in my NDIS Plan.

What is this?

Social and Community Participation funding can be found in both the CORE and CAPACITY BUILDING parts of your NDIS Plan:

CORE SUPPORTS

Assistance with Social and Community Participation

Assistance with Social and Community Participation (Support Category 4) is a funded support category that you may find in your NDIS plan, under Core Supports.

Provision of this support can be found in the 2023/2024 Support Catalogue. our prices for 2024/2025

This funding covers the SUPPORT NDIS participants need to meet goals relating to participating in community, social or recreational activities. These activities may be provided in a centre or in a community setting.

What can I use this funding for?

The staff at Bunya Care will provide you with support going into the community. What are the things we can do, when we go out?

Staff can:

  • Accompany you to events such as a sports game or concert
  • Take you to appointments
  • Assist you with filling in forms
  • Help you do shopping
  • Accompany you when you attend social groups or functions
  • attend personal development courses with you
  • join a social group
  • take you in an outing or a holiday
  • go on a holiday camp
  • visit your local library

All supports funded under this item need to be determined as reasonable and necessary and a part of your NDIS plan goals.

You could use this funding for a Disability Support Worker to support you to travel to and attend a music concert.

This funding also covers support for activities that are either centre-based or out in the community (e.g. to attend a gardening group) at standard or higher intensity rates.

CAPACITY BUILDING SUPPORTS (Support Category 9)

This category of funding can be used to pay for your tuition fees, art classes, sports coaching and similar activities that build skills and independence.

It can be used to pay for camps, classes and holiday activities that have capacity building components. These may include assistance to establish volunteer arrangements in the community, mentoring, peer support or individual skill development.

All supports funded again has to be determined as reasonable and necessary and be part of your NDIS plan goals.

Examples provided by the NDIS of support that can be funded include:

  • Universal recreational activities: A limited number of lessons could be funded to enable a participant to try out an activity and test their capability and interest in pursuing this activity further – such as horse riding, art, dance or singing classes
  • Funding to attend a “camp” or groups that build a person’s relationship skills and offer a range of activities and opportunities to explore wider interests.
  • Other items or adjustments such as customised tools required because of the person’s disability, could also be funded. An example of this is if you wanted to play all abilities golf and needed to buy an adapted golf club to play. Or you wanted to do a drumming class and needed to buy an adapted glove to allow you to grip the drumsticks.

In-Home Respite

Your family may have to go somewhere for a short period of time, such as to hospital. Our staff can provide care in your own home while they are away.

Shared Living

Renting a home can be challenging. You may not need around the clock support or need someone to be with you all the time, but you still need some support in your own home.  Discuss with us an option to rent a home on your behalf whilst you use some of our other service offerings such as community access, plan management and support coordination.  Bunya Care may be able to provide you with renting a space with other participants who do not need support at home all the time.

Plan Management

Plan management is one of the options you have for managing the money in your NDIS Plan. Plan management gives you choice and control over how you use your NDIS budget but with the support of a “plan manager” who helps manage your funds and pays your bills.

When you have plan management, the NDIS pays someone you choose to help you manage your money and pay your bills.  It’s like having your own NDIS-funded bookkeeper.

How does this work?

All of the good bits of being self-managed without having to worry about budgeting, record keeping and paperwork

The NDIS adds extra funds in your plan to cover the cost of your plan manager

Your invoices can go direct to your plan manager who coordinates claiming and payment direct with the NDIS and your providers.

Pros:

  • You have complete control of your funds
  • You can choose any provider to help you meet your goals (registered or not)
  • You have the power to approve each payment from your plan to providers
  • Billing issues and questions are resolved for you
  • No bookkeeping or financial tracking
  • No upfront costs
  • No separate bank account required
  • No audits.

Cons:

  • You cannot have services with prices set above the NDIS Price Guide.

    Support Coordination

    What is Support Coordination?

Support Coordination connects you with the human and material supports you need to make your goals a reality. It strengthens your ability to coordinate and choose your supports so you can participate more fully in the community. Support Coordination is a service which is funded separately to your disability supports within your NDIS Plan.

If you decide that you require more than just basic Support Connection from your Local Area Coordinator, you will need to discuss this at your NDIS planning meeting with the agency and have this approved as part of your NDIS Plan.

Make sure you explain to your NDIS Planner the reasons why you feel you require the assistance of a Support Coordinator. You will also need to explain the type of assistance you require as well.

Your support coordinator is there to help you get the most out of your NDIS plan. Support coordination is funded in your NDIS plan under Capacity Building.
